Enabling device

An enabling device is a manually operated control, typically a three-position switch on a teach pendant, that permits robot motion only while held in the center-enabled position; both releasing it and squeezing it fully stop motion. It protects the person teaching or verifying a program inside the safeguarded space, since a startle reaction in either direction removes the motion-enable signal. ISO 10218 requires enabling-device control of motion during manual modes of operation.
