Machine vision
The use of cameras and image processing to give robots information about parts and surroundings, covering guidance, inspection, identification, and measurement. Two-dimensional vision locates and verifies parts in a plane, while 3D vision from stereo, structured light, or time-of-flight sensors supports bin picking and depalletizing of unordered items. Vision shifts a cell's requirement from precise part fixturing to reliable imaging, which changes where the engineering effort goes.
